Tucked into the vibrant and dynamic southwest corner of Yonkers sits Iglesia Memorial de San Andres, an Episcopal church with as dynamic and diverse a history as the city of which it is a part.
There is never a quiet moment at San Andres. Its one large common room is a nave for services of worship, a distribution hub for food supplies twice a month, an after-school classroom every school day, the noisy center of summer camp activity during the summer months, a vestry meeting room, community meeting space, and any other use that helps this parish to provide the support so badly needed in this struggling community
Every day for six weeks in the summer San Andres is alive with children, 27 on average each day last summer, excited about that day's educational trip to a museum or a nature park, or looking forward to a day at a local pool, or spending the day in games and activities.
